We are Roanoke’s newest jiu-jitsu school! Co-owned by husband and wife team, Tara and Stephen Fisher, we are committed to being a fun, positive, and family friendly environment for people to learn and train.

Tara started jiu-jitsu at the age of 28. She has trained for 12 years and currently holds the rank of Brown Belt certified through the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF). Under the guidance of Checkmat Lynchburg Jiu-Jitsu, Tara is excited to continue her training to earn her black belt while bringing her love of the art to Roanoke! When you train at Summit, you are part of a larger community of support and will have access to the Black Belts that have helped us get here!

Stephen was introduced to jiu-jitsu and started training in the summer of 2011 at the age of 18. His first three years training were with James Madison University’s Jiu-Jitsu club team. After his time at JMU, he joined Fairfax Jiu-Jitsu for two years where he earned his blue belt. After moving to Roanoke, VA in 2018 and continuing his training in Southwest-VA, he earned his purple and brown belt at Checkmat Lynchburg. Stephen enjoys the communities and friendships he has made through training, and is excited to continue his jiu-jitsu journey to black belt while sharing his passion for the sport with his students and friends through Summit.
